Ingredients
200g spaghetti (whole wheat for added fiber, or gluten-free if preferred)
1 tbsp olive oil
250g lean ground beef or turkey
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves
Directions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add spaghetti, and cook according to package instructions (usually around 8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside.
- While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is soft and translucent (about 2-3 minutes).
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring well.
- Add the Italian herbs, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and sauce to thicken slightly.
- Toss the drained spaghetti into the skillet with the Bolognese sauce, stirring until evenly coated.
- Serve warm with a sprinkle of Parmesan and a few fresh basil leaves, if desired.
Notes
- Serving Suggestions:
Pair with a crisp side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal. For added protein, consider a side of roasted chickpeas or steamed vegetables.
