Perfect for busy weeknights, this recipe combines tender cabbage, sautéed onions, and perfectly cooked pasta, all seasoned with caraway seeds for a unique twist. Not only is it quick and budget-friendly, but it’s also packed with fiber and essential nutrients, making it both satisfying and nutritious.
Ingredients
750g fresh white cabbage
3 tbsp rapeseed oil
1 large onion
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp caraway seeds
300g small square pasta (Fleckerl), cooked in salted water
Directions
- Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, cut the head in half, and remove the core from both halves.
- Place each half flat on a cutting board and cut into squares about 1-2 cm in size (similar to the size of the pasta).
- In a large pot, heat the rapeseed oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
- Add the chopped cabbage, season immediately with salt and pepper, and optionally add the caraway seeds. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly browned.
- Mix in the cooked pasta. Season to taste with salt and pepper!
Notes
- Enhance your Krautfleckerl with a side of fresh green salad or tangy pickles for a refreshing contrast. A dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of crispy bacon bits can elevate the flavors, making this dish even more satisfying.
